:: EAT WELL FOR BETTER SLEEP ::

As a Personal Trainer I work with a lot of clients who struggle with sleep - either getting to sleep or staying asleep though the night. 🌓 🌟 💤


Now I’m NOT qualified in sleep consultation but when I look at my clients diet I often see a pattern that these clients do not get enough carbohydrate in their diet. Poor old carbs get bad press but I’m afraid our bodies need them for so many functions including sleep.


HOW I hear you ask! Well here we get a little technical but I’ll keep it simple. Our bodies convert the amino acid tryptophan into serotonin in the brain which in turn turns to melatonin which regulates sleep cycles. Carbohydrates are needed to get tryptophan from the blood into the brain. Without this the body isn’t able to make enough of the sleep juice and we either can’t sleep or we wake up.


Not so simple I’m afraid and I hope your still with me! Put simply, if your struggling to sleep make sure you have a quality complex carbohydrate with your evening meal and see how it affects your sleep over a few weeks.
